Teaching and Mentoring
Dr. David Soo teaches intermediate to advanced piano students. His students have won international piano competitions in Australia and in Singapore; and they have been major prize-winners in national piano competitions. They have been invited to perform solo recitals and concertos with orchestras. David's students have also been invited to perform live-to-air radio broadcasts.
Dr. Soo is currently a piano staff member at the Australian Guild of Music Education, where he teaches undergraduate students piano and at Brighton Grammar School (VIC). He has also been invited to piano exams at a tertiary level. David has taught students of all ages and abilities in both Australia and the United Kingdom. He was an Artist Fellow at the Guildhall where taught undergraduate piano. His piano teaching is inspired through his study with world-leading mentors and pianists, Glenn Riddle and Joan Havill.
David is passionate about music literacy, and he also teaches VCE Music Performance, IB Music, Theory and Musicianship (all levels). He is also familiar with the Kodaly method. David's musicianship and theory training has been inspired by Jenny Gillan and his time at VCASS. David is a fully accredited member of the Victorian Music Teachers' Association (VMTA).
He holds qualifications in Australia and in the United Kingdom.
Adjudication & Examining
Dr. Soo has been invited to adjudicate piano competitions in Australia. These include Eisteddfods in Victoria and in other cities. He has adjudicated many piano sections including free, open choice, and graded sections. David has also been invited to serve on national music competition juries. These include being a jury member of the prestigious Melbourne Recital Centre's National Bach Prize, the Musical Society of Victoria, and the 3MBS Young Performer Awards. This year he has been invited to adjudicate the Royal South Street's Margaret Schofield national Chopin competition, and the national Junior Chopin prize in Ballarat.

David has been invited to examine undergraduate piano students at the Australian Guild of Music and Education. Students at the undergraduate level are required to perform technique and repertoire recital examinations. Each exam covers a variety of styles and genres.
